Milan, 26th May 2026 – ACL Energy S.p.A., an Italian independent developer active in energy infrastructure and utility-scale battery energy storage systems, announces the successful completion of a project financing for the construction of a portfolio of two stand-alone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects in Italy, with a total capacity of 211 MW.
The portfolio comprises two BESS projects located in Lombardy and Apulia, two strategic regions for the development of infrastructure supporting the flexibility and security of the national electricity system. The projects are being developed by ACL Energy together with its industrial partner and majority shareholder in the initiatives.
The project financing was arranged with the Qualitas Energy Credit Fund, part of the broader Qualitas Energy Credit strategy. Qualitas Energy is a leading global investment and management platform with a dual focus on both funding and developing renewable energy, energy transition, and sustainable infrastructure, and will finance ACL Energy’s equity contribution to the projects. The transaction will support the construction, commissioning and operation of the portfolio, with disbursements linked to the achievement of specific construction milestones.
The completion of the transaction represents a significant milestone in ACL Energy’s growth journey and confirms the technical and industrial quality of the projects, the strength of the development process and the growing interest of institutional investors in the Italian storage market.
BESS assets are playing an increasingly central role in the energy transition, contributing to the flexibility, resilience and stability of the electricity grid. By storing energy and releasing it when needed, these assets support the integration of renewable energy sources, reduce curtailment, help manage imbalances and provide ancillary services to the electricity system.
The two projects benefit from long-term contracted revenues deriving from market mechanisms such as the Capacity Market and MACSE auctions, confirming the strategic role of storage in the evolving Italian electricity market.
In parallel, ACL Energy has also completed a EUR 5 million corporate financing subscribed by Banco BPM, Mediocredito Centrale and Deutsche Bank, aimed at supporting the development of the Company’s BESS pipeline, composed of projects at an advanced stage of the permitting process. The financing is structured as a medium-term facility and is partially guaranteed by SACE Green and Italy’s SME Guarantee Fund.
The corporate financing forms part of a broader corporate evolution that has also seen ACL Energy complete its transformation into a joint-stock company, or Societa per Azioni – S.p.A., providing the Company with a corporate structure better suited to its growth objectives and the execution of its industrial plan.
Nicola Locascio, Co-Founder of ACL Energy, said:
“We are proud to have Qualitas Energy as our financing partner on this transaction, backed by one of Europe’s leading energy transition specialists. Closing construction financing on stand-alone BESS assets in Italy at this scale is a significant achievement and reflects the quality of our projects and our team. This transaction marks ACL Energy’s entry into the institutional capital markets and represents a defining moment in our long-term growth strategy.”
Lorenzo Avello, Co-Founder & Managing Partner of ACL Energy, added:
“The completion of this project financing represents a fundamental step in ACL Energy’s growth journey. In today’s increasingly complex energy landscape, battery energy storage systems are not only key enablers of renewable integration, but also strategic infrastructure for strengthening the security, flexibility and independence of the national energy system and, with it, the competitiveness of the country as a whole. This transaction marks an important step in ACL Energy’s mission to build an independent and scalable Italian BESS development platform, capable of supporting the energy transition and creating long-term value for our stakeholders.”
With the completion of the project financing, the corporate financing and the transformation into S.p.A., ACL Energy strengthens its positioning in the Italian storage market and confirms its commitment to developing innovative, scalable infrastructure solutions aligned with the needs of energy security, renewable integration and decarbonisation.
